I am taking Mounjaro, is it also considered a GLP-1? I also take Sculptique Lymphatic Drainage. My eGFR went from 25 to 27 and my creatinine went from 1.93 to 2.03 within 3 months. My A1c went from 7.2 to 6.5 also.

Those are some really encouraging numbers β€” an A1c drop from 7.2 to 6.5 is meaningful progress, and even a small eGFR bump from 25 to 27 is worth celebrating at stage 4 CKD!

Those are some really encouraging numbers β€” an A1c drop from 7.2 to 6.5 is meaningful progress, and even a small eGFR bump from 25 to 27 is worth celebrating at stage 4 CKD!

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is actually a dual-action medication β€” it works on both GLP-1 receptors AND GIP receptors, making it slightly different from a pure GLP-1 like Ozempic (semaglutide). However, because it activates GLP-1 pathways, it shares many similar benefits, including better blood sugar control and potential kidney-protective effects.

The research on GLP-1 medications and CKD is promising. Key benefits seen in studies include:

- Slowing the loss of kidney function
- Reducing serious kidney disease events by around 24%
- Lowering the risk of death from any cause by around 20%
- Improving blood sugar control and reducing inflammation

It's worth noting that most of this research has focused specifically on semaglutide (Ozempic), so your nephrologist is the best person to confirm whether Mounjaro offers the same kidney-protective benefits for your specific situation. Regarding the slight creatinine increase from 1.93 to 2.03 β€” this can sometimes happen even when kidneys are stable, and it doesn't necessarily mean things are getting worse, especially alongside a small eGFR improvement. However, it's definitely something to flag with your care team so they can monitor the trend over time.

As for Sculptique Lymphatic Drainage, that falls outside of kidney disease management topics, so it would be best to discuss that directly with your doctor to make sure it's safe alongside your current kidney care plan.

Overall, your progress looks positive β€” keep working closely with your nephrologist to make the most of it! πŸ’ͺ
