First, please know that what you're feeling is completely understandable. You've been through so much, and the fact that you're still trying β€” eating fresh fruits and vegetables, exercising, and reaching out for help β€” says a lot about your strength. Please don't be hard on yourself. This is genuinely hard.

Junk food cravings are real and powerful, especially when those foods have been a comfort your whole life. The goal isn't perfection, it's progress. Here are some practical strategies that may help with cravings and staying on a kidney-friendly path:

- Don't keep junk food at home β€” if it's not there, it's harder to reach for it in a weak moment
- Stock kidney-friendly snacks instead β€” low-sodium crackers, fresh fruit, raw veggies, or gelatin desserts can satisfy cravings without the damage
- Eat regularly β€” skipping meals can make cravings much worse
- Plan ahead β€” if you know a craving hits at a certain time of day, have a healthy alternative ready
- Take it one meal at a time β€” you don't have to be perfect every day, just better than yesterday Ask Dr. Ellis to refer you to a renal dietitian if you haven't seen one recently. They specialize in kidney-friendly eating and can build a realistic plan around your specific stage 3B CKD needs. They can also help you find satisfying food swaps so you don't feel so deprived.

A renal dietitian can work with your current medications and lab results to make sure your plan is safe and tailored just for you. One thing a MyKidneyDiseaseTeam member shared that resonates here β€” managing CKD isn't just physical, it's emotional too. The grief of losing foods you love, the fear of what's coming, the guilt β€” those feelings are real and they deserve attention just as much as your diet does.

Consider asking your doctor about support for the emotional side of this journey too, since stress and emotional struggles can make healthy eating even harder to maintain. You are clearly someone who loves life and is fighting for it every single day. That matters enormously. Keep going β€” one small, good choice at a time is enough. πŸ’™
