I am close to Stage 5. I never know if something I’m experiencing is kidney related or something else.

Members responded to a question about blurry vision in late-stage CKD, sharing that eye issues can show up even in earlier stages like 3 and 4, with causes ranging from severe dry eye to diabetes-related changes. Several members recommended seeing an eye doctor for a full dilated exam, and one member cautioned others against a pricey prescription eye drop that ended up making their vision worse. A recurring theme was the frustration of not knowing whether symptoms are kidney-related or something else, along with a shared desire to find trustworthy solutions in a market full of uncertain products.

I have very few signs of CKD at Stage 4. The biggest issue is bloating, so I have chosen to Fast from 8 in the evening until noon the next day. I always drink lemon water and 1 glass of Electrolytes grape flavored with very little potassium

Yes, blurry vision can absolutely be connected to kidney disease, and it's very understandable to wonder what's kidney-related and what isn't. As kidney function declines, several things can affect your eyes.

Here are some kidney-related reasons blurry vision can occur:

- Fluid buildup causing very high blood pressure, which can trigger sudden blurry vision
- Damage to small blood vessels shared between the kidneys and eyes
- Waste product buildup (uremia) in the blood
- Mineral imbalances — calcium and phosphate can deposit in the eyes, causing irritation
- Anemia (low red blood cell counts) linked to poor kidney function Some specific eye conditions associated with CKD include retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration — all of which can cause blurry vision.

Watch out for these warning signs that need urgent attention:

- Sudden onset of blurry vision
- Dark floating shapes or lines in your vision
- Flashes of light
- Loss of side (peripheral) vision

Regular eye exams with an ophthalmologist are really important, especially at your stage. Working closely with your nephrologist to manage blood pressure and mineral levels may also help protect your vision. Don't hesitate to flag any vision changes to your healthcare team promptly.

The drops made my sight worse. $80 in the garbage. They made everything very dim and blurry, don’t waste your money!
