A new CKD Stage 3a diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but the good news is that with the right steps, many people successfully keep it stable. As one MyKidneyDiseaseTeam member shared, they were diagnosed with Stage 3 CKD in 2015 and have kept it stable ever since by watching it diligently.

Getting to a nephrologist as soon as possible is the most important first step. They'll monitor your kidney function and build a treatment plan tailored to you. While you wait for that appointment, here are some things worth starting now:

- Eat kidney-friendly foods — more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins like chicken and fish
- Cut back on salt, processed foods, and added sugars
- Stay active — aim for at least 30 minutes most days, but read the bodybuilding note below
- Take all medications as prescribed and don't start or stop anything without your doctor's input
- List any supplements you're currently taking — this is especially important as a bodybuilder, since protein supplements and creatine can put extra strain on kidneys
- Avoid smoking and limit alcohol, as both can worsen kidney damage On the bodybuilding front — this is a really important conversation to have with your nephrologist before your next session. High-protein diets and certain supplements common in bodybuilding can increase the workload on your kidneys. It doesn't mean you have to give it all up, but your nephrologist and a renal dietitian can help you adjust safely.

Don't wait too long to get that appointment booked — early action at Stage 3a can genuinely make a big difference!
