Members rallying around a stage 3b kidney disease diagnosis offered helpful plant-based protein ideas, with popular suggestions including lentils, chickpeas, nut butters, and kidney beans in controlled portions. Several members emphasized choosing low-sodium canned options and rinsing beans well, and one member shared a simple homemade hummus recipe as a way to avoid additives found in store-bought versions. A recurring theme was the importance of reading labels for phosphorus, adjusting meals to stay within daily sodium limits, and working with a renal nutritionist for personalized guidance.

Hummus is great for a late night snack while relaxing. I rinse a can of chickpeas, add it to my food processor with Tahini, minced garlic, lemon juice, etc, and blend it. By making it yourself, you don't have to worry about additives such as you'd have in store bought hummus. Plus you can add your favorite flavors, like roasted red bell peppers. I like to keep celery stalks on hand for dipping. Easy recipes for hummus can be found on Pinterest.com.

Nut butter is OK but stick to the specified serving size. Chia seeds, flax no more than 1-2 tablespoons per day due to their sodium & potassium levels.Kidney beans 1/2 cup cooked, 3-4 times a week. If you're using canned beans choose low sodium & rinse them- don't use their canned liquid.

Hope this helps!😃

Thank you, everyone for the suggestions. I made black bean tacos and ate them on a lettuce leaf this week. Surprisingly very good!! 😁

Lentils are really good. Chicpeas too.look for low sodium versions or rinse well to rid of some salt. You can use lentils for tacos instead of beef or chicken. I eat sprouted grain bread from Ezekiel.. oat meal with berries peaches strawberries or apples as toppings or add in.if sodium is too high for you adjust your other meals for rest of day to stay below your limit. Read your labels for phos added ingredients. You can go to kidney.org for recripe ideas.
Working with a renal nutitionist is key.
