Jardiance did not agree with me. Dr never tried anything else. He had me on sodium bicarbonate 650 mg 4x daily. I refuse to go on dialysis. What would be life expectancy in hospice?

Seems to me you are giving up too easily. Lots of things you can do/try to get your numbers better and live many enjoyable years. Are you drinking adequate fluids? At least 64 oz of water and seltzer daily. Is your weight where it should be? If not, do what you can to bring it into normal range for your height. Change your diet to plant based, low sodium. Stop adding salt to your food and don’t use any canned or prepared food that contains salt. Use Dash or Mrs. Dash spices and herbs like garlic, ginger, and cilantro to flavor your foods. Cut out all meat, chicken, even fish until your numbers improve. Then when you get to 3a, you can allow yourself an occasional meal with fish or chicken.

What is the life expectancy for someone with stage 3b CKD who chooses hospice care instead of dialysis?

What is the life expectancy for someone with stage 3b CKD who chooses hospice care instead of dialysis?

With a GFR of 35, you're in stage 3b, which means moderate kidney damage. The foamy urine you're experiencing is a common symptom at this stage and often indicates protein in the urine, which can affect prognosis.

Life expectancy without dialysis varies significantly based on several factors:

* Your age and overall health
* Whether you have heart disease or other conditions
* How quickly your kidney function declines
* Protein levels in your urine (higher levels pose greater risk)

For people who reach kidney failure (stage 5) and choose not to undergo dialysis, research shows median survival ranges from one month to 3.4 years. However, you're currently at stage 3b, not stage 5.

With proper management and lifestyle changes, it's possible to live for several years without progressing to kidney failure. Many people with stage 3b can slow disease progression through:

* Following a kidney-friendly diet
* Managing blood pressure
* Avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol
* Regular monitoring with your nephrologist

Since Jardiance didn't work for you, it's worth having an honest conversation with your nephrologist about other treatment options that might help preserve your kidney function and prevent progression to stage 4 or 5.

Heart disease is actually the leading cause of death for people with CKD, not kidney failure itself, so managing your overall health is crucial.
