What dietary changes can help manage stage 3 CKD with your lab values?

With stage 3 CKD and a GFR of 46.3, you're in stage 3a, where your kidneys have moderate damage but still work. Diet confusion is completely understandable, especially with arthritis adding another layer of complexity.

Here are key dietary considerations for stage 3 CKD:

Foods to Watch or Limit:
- High-potassium foods like spinach, chard, bananas, pomegranate, avocados, beans, legumes, nuts, and certain seafood
- Salt substitutes containing potassium chloride
- Excessive protein (though some protein is still needed)
- Foods high in phosphorus

Why This Matters:

Your kidneys aren't filtering as efficiently, so wastes, toxins, electrolytes, and fluid can build up in your blood. Managing what you eat helps reduce the workload on your kidneys and prevents complications like high potassium levels.

Next Steps:

Consider asking your doctor for a referral to a renal dietitian who can create a personalized meal plan that addresses both your kidney disease and arthritis needs. They can help you navigate the confusion and find foods that work for your specific situation.

For HBP I use hisbicus tea. Magnésium glycenate. Low dose 240 mg. For inflammation no starch or sugar diet could help you. Not easy changing our diets.. Good luck!
