What foods should you avoid with CKD stage 3B?

With stage 3B kidney disease, you'll likely need to limit certain nutrients that can build up when your kidneys aren't filtering properly. Here's what to watch:

Foods to Limit or Avoid:

* High-sodium foods - Fast food, processed foods, canned soups, deli meats, and salty snacks
* High-potassium foods - Some fruits like honeydew (194mg per half cup) and cantaloupe (208mg per half cup), bananas, and certain vegetables
* High-phosphorus foods - Most dairy products, dark colas, chocolate, and processed foods with phosphate additives
* Excessive protein - You may need to limit protein intake to about 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight

Why These Matter:

High phosphorus can cause joint pain, weakened bones, and heart disease. Too much potassium can lead to serious heart problems, including heart attack. Excess sodium puts stress on your kidneys.

Important Note:

Everyone's nutritional needs are different with kidney disease. Work with your nephrologist and a registered dietitian to create a personalized plan that's right for your specific situation and any other health conditions you have.
