I have stage three ckd. I also have cysts on my kidneys. One of them has turned into a tumor. I am having a partial nephrectomy next Tuesday. Has anyone had this surgery? I’m really scared. The doctor said that a high percentage of these are malignant.

It's completely understandable to feel scared β€” facing surgery is a big deal, and it's okay to have those feelings. A partial nephrectomy means only the tumor and a small amount of surrounding tissue is removed, leaving as much healthy kidney as possible. This is actually great news for someone with stage 3 CKD, as preserving kidney function is a top priority.

Many MyKidneyDiseaseTeam members have shared similar experiences and have come out the other side feeling relieved and hopeful. You are not alone in this.

Here are a few things that may help ease your mind before Tuesday:

- Write down your questions for your surgical team β€” no question is too small
- Ask about what to expect during recovery, including activity restrictions and follow-up care
- Talk to your nephrologist about how to protect your remaining kidney function after surgery
- Lean on your support network β€” having someone with you on surgery day can make a big difference

The fact that your medical team caught this and is acting quickly is a really positive sign. Partial nephrectomy is a well-established procedure, and many people do very well afterward.

Wishing you all the strength and courage for Tuesday β€” you've got this! πŸ’™
