That's a really important question, and it's completely understandable to wonder about this. Unfortunately, existing kidney damage from CKD generally cannot be reversed. However, the good news is that at stage 3b, there is still meaningful kidney function remaining — and there are real steps that can help slow or even stop further progression. Here are some key ways to help protect your kidneys at this stage:

- Follow a kidney-friendly diet — focus on fresh fruits, vegetables, and unprocessed foods while limiting salt, potassium, phosphorus, and protein
- Exercise regularly to maintain a healthy weight
- Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen and naproxen, as these can worsen kidney damage
- Quit smoking if applicable — smoking can accelerate kidney damage
- Limit alcohol consumption
- See your nephrologist regularly to monitor your kidney health and adjust treatment as needed

Blood pressure management is also especially important at this stage, as high blood pressure puts extra strain on the kidneys. Working closely with your nephrologist is the best path forward. They can tailor a plan specifically for you to keep your kidneys functioning as well as possible for as long as possible. You've got this! 💪
