At stage 4 kidney disease, the kidneys are significantly less able to filter waste and balance minerals, so diet becomes really important. Here are the key foods and ingredients to limit or avoid:

High-Sodium Foods
- Processed meats like hot dogs and bacon
- Fast food and packaged/canned foods with added salt
- Salty snacks and condiments

High-Potassium Foods
- Bananas, avocados, and cantaloupe
- Potatoes, beans, and leafy greens
- Honeydew melon

High-Phosphorus Foods
- Most dairy products
- Dark colas and chocolate
- Whole grains, some nuts and seeds, and oatmeal

High-Protein Foods
- Large portions of red meat, poultry, or fish should be reduced — think of these as side dishes rather than the main event
- Egg yolks (egg whites are generally a better option)

Saturated Fats
- Red meat and butter in large amounts can put extra strain on the kidneys At stage 4, fluid intake may also need to be monitored, as the kidneys may struggle to manage excess liquid, which can lead to swelling and high blood pressure.

Everyone's needs are a little different depending on their specific situation, so working with a renal dietitian is one of the best steps to take. They can create a personalized plan that takes the guesswork out of every meal.

It’s scary to know that dr’s and dietitians say we can eat anything as well . They don’t go into detail.. thank you for asking that question..
