Members rallied around someone newly diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease, offering reassurance that the diagnosis is not the end and that slowing progression is very possible. Several members shared practical advice including reducing sodium and processed foods, staying hydrated, exercising, and asking doctors for referrals to a nephrologist and renal dietitian. A recurring theme was the importance of being proactive, monitoring labs regularly, avoiding unapproved supplements, and using trusted resources like the National Kidney Foundation and DaVita to learn more.

Keep up with your monitoring via your Nephrologist. It sometimes feels like they don't do anything but collect the fee but that is not true nor is it fair to them.

Go and see a nephrologist, watch what you are eating stay hydrated. Have your doctor request a complete blood draw and communicate you the results. Please what you have is not the end of the world. Have CKD4 myself with anemia and low iron. See on a regular basis my nephrologist and his NP as my PCP very interested in what I have. Do not listen to people saying that you need so many products sold online and doing absolutely nothing. As your doctors for all.

Hi Pearl,
Good for you for being proactive. The specialist for kidneys is a nephrologist. The renal nurse is also quite knowledgeable. My advice is to access your patient portal after every consult and use it to communicate with your doctor. They enter OV (office visit) and Summary notes after every consult.
Diet, exercise and staying hydrated with water are all important to your kidneys.
Hope you enjoy a great day! Regards, Judi in RVA stage 3A CKD (one kidney)

Ask your doctor to refer you to a specialist. Also ask to speak to a nutritionist. Don’t take no for an answer. My doctor would not refer me to a specialist and I had to call my insurance Member Services and they’re looking into it now to get me a referral.

Google/AI the Australian podcast "Kidney Coach." There are CKD grocery shopping food lists, daily diet printout sheets, medical abstract results and interesting medical guest speakers. My nephrologist is not a patient educator.....just wanted me to accept Jardiance or Farciga (too many side effects...no way), consider dialysis and the transplant list (will do neither).
