A MyKidneyDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have ckd stage3. I have felt terrible for about two years now. Tired ,leg pain, arms going numb at night, trouble sleeping, off balance all the time. Does anyone else feel like this? I don’t know how much more I can do this.

There are medications that can help with the symptoms. I wish there was medication to fix the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Your Nephrologist should beable to prescribe some medications to help you feel better. Unfortunately, your CKD may get worse but the best you can do is limit future damage to your kidneys. Talk to your doctor and see if they can help you with the symptoms.

Are these symptoms common with stage 3 CKD?

Yes, many people with stage 3 CKD experience symptoms similar to yours. At this stage, waste and fluid can build up in your blood, causing noticeable effects. Common symptoms include:

* Constantly feeling tired or weak
* Muscle cramps and leg pain
* Trouble sleeping
* Feeling off balance
* Swelling in hands or feet
* Changes in urination

A MyKidneyDiseaseTeam member shared they've been managing stage 3 CKD since 2015 by watching it carefully and keeping it stable. You're not alone in feeling this way, and there are steps you can take to feel better. What can help you feel better?

It's really important to talk with your nephrologist about your symptoms, especially the numbness, pain, and balance issues. They can help determine what's causing these problems and adjust your treatment plan.

Things that may help include:

* Working with your doctor on medications to manage symptoms
* Making dietary changes to reduce waste buildup
* Staying hydrated (as recommended by your doctor)
* Learning about your condition so you feel more in control
* Seeking mental health support - about a quarter of people with CKD experience depression, and therapy can really help

The good news is that with treatment and lifestyle changes, many people can manage stage 3 CKD and continue living well. Don't try to push through this alone - your healthcare team can connect you with resources and support to improve how you're feeling.
