Members discussed how often someone with stage 3 CKD should see their doctor, with most agreeing that every 3 to 4 months is the standard for a nephrologist visit, paired with bloodwork done a few weeks before each appointment. Several members shared that frequency can vary based on individual health factors, noting that once a year may be acceptable if numbers are stable and there are no other conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, but more frequent visits are needed when complications are present. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, including accessing lab results through patient portals, keeping daily logs of blood pressure and weight, and seeking a new doctor if the current one is not monitoring closely enough.

Hi Margie, I am stage 3b. I see my nephrologist every 3-4 months. Two weeks prior to his appt I have bloodwork done. When I see him he has the results of the bloodwork and we discuss the results. I’m always anxious to find out if the #’s have advanced. What stage are you Margie. Once a year is not enough. I would be checking out a new dr.
